Joint venture ABETEC and Mitchell Giurgola New York completed the master plan for the 8.70 ha International School of SHAPE Bergen in 2009. An ambitious plan that had to be implemented in phases as all the schools remained operational during the construction works.
Phase 1 was the primary and middle school, phase 2 the secondary school, phase 3 the three school buildings Germany, UK-Canada and 4Naties.

The philosophy is aimed at understanding school as a 'Global Community', where students are given the opportunity to become familiar with other nationalities, study other cultures and learn to understand different points of view.
To this end, a large open square 'The Commons' was created in the middle of the campus for students. Together with the communal playing field, sports areas and multifunctional space, 'Commons' were designed in such a way that they invite common use and interaction between all schools.

The third phase of this project, the international schools, was inaugurated in September 2018.
The building of the 4Nations was completed in October 2019.
