KTA Mobi Oostakker

KTA Mobi plans to relocate with 127 students from Drongen (where they currently rent warehouses) to Oostakker where they already have a campus. This requires the construction of a work shed measuring 1,840 m².  Students in agricultural mechanics, truck and agricultural vehicle driving, motorcycle maintenance, and car mechanics will receive their training in the new facilities.

GO! wants to maximise the potential of the existing dilapidated site by demolishing part of the existing buildings, retaining and repurposing others, and constructing a new school building as well.  The existing buildings that are currently in use must also remain operational during the construction phase, while guaranteeing the safety of all pupils, of course. 

The site is located in a unique green area. ABETEC wanted to create unity in the design and therefore included a green orchard with newly planted large trees, but mainly a grid of low serviceberry trees as a defining identity for the campus. The view of the surrounding green area is maintained thanks to large windows in the workshop building. The teachers’ room is located on the upper floor to provide a clear view of all workspaces, instruction rooms, and labs.

Of course, user comfort also must be considered, with the lowest possible energy costs. Since we are working in a school environment, the design criteria established by AGION have been followed to create a pleasant living and learning environment for both students and teachers. The goal is a healthy environment where air quality, temperature, lighting, and acoustics are top priorities, and where common problems such as it being too hot, too cold, or too noisy are eliminated.
